Women’s Center of Tarrant County
Challenge
The Women’s Center Tarrant County exists to inspire and empower women, men, and children to overcome violence, crisis, and poverty. Their skilled and heartfelt staff hear a lot of pain and they inspire a lot of hope. Helping the helpers is vital to the continuation of their important work. Vicarious trauma is part of their everyday life.
Our partner Challenge of Tarrant County hired us to provide support and relief for the 80-employee agency.
Approach
The staff was divided into four groups : rape crisis counselors, general counselors, employment support, and all other manager and admin roles. We came on-site for 8 weeks to teach a total of four classes per week, one to each group. Because the nature of their jobs are unique, and some groups have clinical training, this enabled The Mindful Project to tailor each class to the audience and need.
We also held weekly, Monday night trauma-informed yoga classes.
Each participant received unlimited free access to The Daily Well for one year so they could continue trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness classes on their own.
